Budget Worksheet

This free budget worksheet has been specially designed to help you prepare a basic household budget. The first step in filling out a budget planner is to get your bank and credit card statements from the last 3 months and start to go through them. Assign each item to the correct category. Feel free to add extra categories if you need them. If you don’t have the data available then start now and work forward for 3 months.

Make sure that you include all expenses, this can take time but it is important to incorporate everything. Some things won’t come up every month (like a haircut, trip to the vet/dentist/cinema) but if you look back over a 3 month period then you should be able to take account of everything. It is very important to include your annual expenses. It is very common to forget about them until the time of year when you have to pay them, and it is imperative to include them in your monthly budget. When you have 3 months worth of data add it up and make an average. This will give your monthly budget.

Filling in the worksheet can be a real eye opener; people are often stunned to see how much they actually spend on each category.
